Semaglutide Weight Loss Injections, Prime Medical Care, Lake Havasu, AZ

Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist injection that helps regulate blood sugar levels in the body. (1) It is also an effective weight loss tool for individuals who meet specific requirements. Significant weight loss by way of exercise and dieting alone can be difficult and take a long time, and patients may only see significant health improvements after losing at least 5% of their initial body weight. (2)

With semaglutide, patients can lose anywhere from 9.6-17.4% of their initial body weight. (2) The effects semaglutide has on weight management are directly related to influencing cravings and metabolism. The medication reduces appetite, increases the feeling of fullness, and slows down the emptying of the stomach into the small intestine. These actions combined help decrease the patient’s caloric intake and allow them to feel satiety after consuming smaller portion sizes. Semaglutide is safe for long-term use under the guidance of a medical practitioner.

At Prima Medical Care, we have an attentive team of care providers who are ready to guide you through weight loss with semaglutide. In addition to starting semaglutide, patients must have a comprehensive treatment regimen to experience successful weight loss and then maintain these goals. For example, they must take into account dieting, exercise, and other healthy lifestyle changes. Weight loss is sustainable if the patient can take the appropriate steps and make changes to their day-to-day routine.

About Semaglutide

Semaglutide, known under the brand names Ozempic and Wegovy, is 94% structurally similar to the natural GLP hormone in the body. (1) This similarity allows semaglutide to mimic the hormones that lower and control blood sugar levels, as well as those that stimulate the production of insulin after a meal. These bodily responses work together to reduce a patient’s appetite and slow gastric emptying. (1) A similar GLP-1 receptor agonist medication, tirzepatide, has similar benefits to semaglutide.

Benefits

Semaglutide has many benefits aside from weight loss. These health benefits include:

  • Regulated blood sugar – fewer highs and lows throughout the day
  • Curbed food cravings
  • Feelings of being full faster and for a longer duration
  • Less motivation for snacking in between meals or late at night
  • Increased energy levels
  • Improvements in fitness and cognition
  • Better quality of blood flow
  • Improvements in overall body confidence
  • Decrease in joint pain due to less weight and strain on the joints
  • Reduced risk of certain kidney and cardiovascular diseases (1)

Candidates

While semaglutide is indicated for patients with type 2 diabetes, it can also help improve the health of those who struggle with excess weight or obesity. If you suffer from weight-related issues, you may be a good candidate for starting a semaglutide regimen. It is important to keep in mind that semaglutide cannot be used in conjunction with any other GLP-1 medications, like tirzepatide. We recommend semaglutide for patients who need help jump-starting their weight-related lifestyle changes and turning healthy habits into daily routines. Certain types of diseases can exclude a patient from starting semaglutide injections. These include:

  • Thyroid cancer
  • Pancreatic insufficiency
  • Gallstones

During a personal consultation at Prima Medical Care, our team will evaluate your candidacy for semaglutide. They will consider these and other conditions at your appointment before you begin the once-weekly injections. (2)

Personal Consultation

If semaglutide weight loss injections sound like a good option for you, schedule a personal consultation at either our Lake Havasu or Kingman office locations. If you call (928) 302-3798 or fill out our contact form, we can help you set a date as soon as possible. During this consultation, we will determine whether semaglutide would be a suitable treatment for you, or if other treatment avenues would provide a better approach. They will carefully consider your medical history and current health conditions. If they determine that you are eligible for semaglutide, they will move forward with a treatment plan and schedule. Our care team will also explain and demonstrate how we will administer the semaglutide injections in the weeks to come. You will be able to discuss potential side effects, ask questions, and discuss your goals with a trained professional. Please arrive at your personal consultation appointment ready to discuss your questions and concerns about weight management with semaglutide. We look forward to meeting you!

Procedure

The procedure for a semaglutide regimen is very simple. We will perform injections once a week–preferably on the same day each week–at the Prima Medical Care office of your choice. Upon your arrival at the office, you will check-in and we will record your current weight; this will allow us to track your progress and make any necessary adjustments to your schedule. When it is time to administer the semaglutide, we will cleanse the injection site with an alcohol pad before gathering a small area of skin and injecting a tiny needle underneath it. The injection site can be the lower abdomen, the back of the arm, or the thigh. We will rotate the injection sites each week so that no one area is receiving all of the injections. (1) The semaglutide regimen will begin at a low dose, and then we can increase the dosage after the first 4 weeks. After another 4 weeks, we can increase the dose again, but it will never exceed 2 mg. (1) Currently, we only offer semaglutide in the form of injections at our locations.

Results

A semaglutide regimen can result in the loss of as much as 9.6-17.4% of a patient’s initial body weight. (2) However, this is a long-term medication that may take a while to produce visible results such as these. For people who experience weight-related complications, this amount of weight loss is significant and can improve overall health. Patients who use semaglutide and see the resulting weight loss may also become newly motivated to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle. After the first year or so of semaglutide treatment, patients may prefer to remain on the medication or continue to manage their new weight through non-medication methods. For example, a patient should incorporate a healthy diet and exercise into their lifestyle. We also recommend eating a balanced diet of protein, carbs, fruits, and vegetables to prevent significant weight gain after treatment. Exercising for a minimum of 30 minutes each day can increase a patient’s metabolism and help reduce weight. A good combination of cardio and resistance training can help patients achieve or maintain the results they desire.

Corresponding & Complementary Procedures

B-Lean IV Infusion

B-Lean IV infusions can help patients burn fat while also boosting metabolism and enhancing blood circulation. These IV infusions contain helpful vitamins and amino acids that can help break down fatty acids or convert nutrients into energy, which can complement the significant weight loss process brought on by weekly semaglutide injections by enhancing the patient’s health and metabolism.

Hormone Replacement Therapy

Hormone replacement therapy can boost the body’s natural hormones to reduce the side effects of aging and help maintain healthy hormone levels for overall weight loss, energy, and metabolism support. At Prima Medical Care, we offer hormone replacement therapy in the form of pellets, which slowly and consistently release the needed hormones from the small unit placed beneath the skin.

FAQ

How does semaglutide work?

Semaglutide works by imitating glucagon-like peptide-1 hormones that play integral roles in the digestive process, from triggering cravings to letting the stomach know when to empty into the lower intestine. By mimicking these hormones, semaglutide can help reduce a person’s appetite, trigger insulin release, as well as regulate blood sugar levels. These features work together to help a patient lose a significant amount of weight and address weight-related complications or issues.

How is semaglutide different from tirzepatide?

Semaglutide is different from tirzepatide as tirzepatide can mimic GLP-1 as well as the gastric inhibitory polypeptide (GIP) hormone, which has very similar functions to GLP-1. However, these dual abilities may lead to enhanced results.

How is semaglutide administered?

Currently, Prima Medical Care only supplies semaglutide in the form of injections into the skin. We can administer these injections in the upper arm, lower abdomen, or thigh. We do semaglutide injections at either of our office locations so that we can monitor your progress and adjust your doses accordingly.

How long does it take to see weight loss results from semaglutide?

It can take around 3 months to start seeing progress in weight loss. It is important to keep in mind that, if you stop the medication after achieving significant weight loss, you will need to continue to practice a healthy lifestyle to avoid gaining the weight back.
